Nancy Wilson and Maisie Richardson
The Jazz musician Nancy Wilson a three-time Grammy Award winner was born on the 20th of February 1937 in Ohio, Chillicothe. She was the daughter of iron worker Olden Wilson and his wife Lillian Ryan who worked as domestic helper. Nancy was the youngest of six children. Her father was a music lover and played records in the family. This had a great influence upon her growing up. By the age of four, she knew she would like to become a musician. She developed her musical talent through singing in choirs at church. At the age of 15, she won a talent show on TV and began appearing on The Skyline Melodies Tv Show while still in High School. The nightclubs where she was a regular performer, she began working at age 15. Nancy was 17 when she had graduated high school, and then matriculated in Ohio Central State College (now Central State University) for an entire year prior to deciding to become a singer. Her debut album was released in 1956 by the Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Big Band. The band toured with her from 1956-1958. In the band, Nancy released her first record with Dot Records. Cannonball addederley advised her to relocate in New York for her career and, in 1959, she moved to The Big Town. Her agent heard her speak at The Blue Morocco Night Club, Boston Road, The Bronx and she signed. Within one month after arriving at New York City. The singer made her debut in 1960 by releasing a single after he obtained an agreement with Capitol records. Guess who? Capitol released five Nancy Wilson records in just two years. At first, she focused on rhythm and blues under Adderley's influence she moved away from R&B and began to embrace music from jazz and torch. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley's collaboration in the year 1962 helped bring her to the forefront and her smash hit Tell Me the Truth was recorded in 1963. She was offered a job at New York's Coconut Grove nightclub, America's top club.
