The Jazz musician Nancy Wilson a three-time Grammy Award winner was born February 20, 1937, in Ohio, Chillicothe. She was the daughter of iron worker Olden Wilson and his wife Lillian Ryan who worked as a domestic servant. Nancy Wilson was the first baby of six. Nancy was heavily influenced in her early years by the music that her father played and loved when she was at home. When she was just 4years old, Nancy was aware that her future was as a performer. Her talents were developed by singing with the choir of her church. The first album she recorded was in 1956 by Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Big Band. The group toured with her from 1956-1958. Nancy began recording for Dot Records in 1956, as part of the group. Cannonball Aderley suggested she move in New York so as to increase her chances of success. In 1959 she moved into The Big Town. After just a few days the manager of Adderley saw her performance and decided to hire her. The agent he was working with signed her up to Capitol in the year 1960. She made her debut that year. In the era of Adderley, Wilson began concentrating on R&B but soon shifted to jazz and torch music. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley joined forces in 1962 and led to her rise up on the charts. By 1963 she scored the biggest success with Tell Me the Truth. The singer was offered a position in New York's Coconut Grove nightclub, America's premier nightclub.
