The Jazz performer Nancy Wilson a three-time Grammy Award winner was born February 20 1937 in the city of Chillicothe, Ohio. Her parents were ironworker Olden Wilson and his wife Lillian Ryan who worked as a domestic servant. Nancy was the sixth of seven children. Nancy was heavily influenced in her early years by the music her father enjoyed and loved playing when she was at home. When she was just four, Nancy knew her destiny was to be an artist. She was able to develop her talents by singing with the church choir. Cannonball Adderley told her to move in New York to further her professional career. She moved there to The Big Town in 1959. In less than a month she began singing at The Blue Morocco Night Club located on Boston Road near The Bronx. Adderley's representative heard her sing and immediately agreed to sign her. The contract was signed signing her with Capitol Records in the year 1960. she debuted the following year with the single. Guess who saw today. Capitol released five Nancy Wilson albums within two years. Adderley helped her move away from R&B and to focus on the torch and jazz genres. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley's collaboration in 1962 was instrumental to make her a star as well as her hit Tell Me the Truth was released in 1963. She was offered a job in New York's Coconut Grove nightclub, America's top club.
